“I wonder as I gaze up at the night sky, this love letter from God to creation, this reminder that somewhere there is peace, somewhere there is order, and I think about how great His kingdom is, and is going to be, and I wonder, in this rare and beautiful moment, how I could ever want to walk away from this all.” Through Painted Desserts by Donald Miller
This quote from one of my favorite authors has been ringing through my head quite frequently. I find it so true, even on the hardest of days. My son could be screaming and all the sudden a bird will chirp. I could feel like winter is never ending and the trees and flowers start to bloom. A day stuck inside ends with a beautiful rainbow. Creation and nature are a true reminder that we are loved and it is all so much bigger than us.
Have you ever sat on the beach at 2am? In my adventurous days- we would hop in a car and drive an hour to do just that. There is nothing more stunning than a million stars above you, a million waves crashing on the shore, and the moon on the water as the only light for miles. Many conversations happened in these places, ones that have changed my life forever. Now, we weren’t on the beach but the back of my old Taurus, staring up at that sky, the first time my husband told me he loved me.
A couple weeks ago I took the photo above. It was a rare occurrence with ice crystals hitting the moon or sun just right. I’m no scientist. All I know is that it could only be seen from certain areas and there was a complete circle around the sun. It was a beautiful moment. More then one friend texted me to step outside and look. It was in those busy moments of the day, we all paused to witness the same thing. It wasn’t just science though, it was Gods way of saying -stop, look, I made this for you.
When we start to see the world as a masterpiece painted just for us, it truly becomes a lot brighter. Rain storms take on a new form of relaxation and restoration. Snow brings a beautiful silence. The stars keep us humbly grounded. The water keeps possibilities endless. Life is better when it is absorbed. Tomorrow wake up refreshed. Take in the masterpiece, admire the different shades of green, blow a dandelion without worry, watch the fish dance together. Find the beauty in the painting and remember it is all for you. You are worth all of that joy, beauty, and life. There is someone out there that not only loves you, but created an infinitely beautiful universe to show you that.
